 Deck and Fence Restoration Remember, if you attempt to do this procedure with out the proper training you could be doing Permanent Damage to the wood. Should I seal my deck/fence? Yes. We use Only Wolman brand wood care products. , and remember, like anything else, proper preparation is the key to a lasting finish. Often our customers will opt to have us clean and prep their deck/fence then do the sealing themselves. Thats fine too! The Wolman brand water-based sealer is unique in the way its applied AND absorbed. Right after we clean the deck/fence while it is still damp, expanded, and at its cleanest point, we apply the sealer, you will notice that the clear sealer goes on with a milky apperance, this will ensure even coverage.  Now while this wood is expanded, due to the moisture, the sealer gets pulled right into the damp wood, then, as the wood dries it shrinks a bit giving it a much tighter seal than conventional sealers that require you to apply it to a dry surface.  All sealers will bead nicely for a short period after being sealed but do not expect the beading to continue for the length of the warranty. Treated wood manufacturers recommend cleaning and sealing your deck every two years. If you'r concerned about the "Pressure Treated" chemical leaching from the wood you can clean and seal once a year. Deck and fence maintenance is just like changing the oil in your car.
